Maxion Advances Product Lifecycle Transparency with First Global LCA

Maxion has reached an important milestone in its sustainability journey with the completion of its first global Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), covering key product segments across 24 manufacturing facilities worldwide.

LCAs help organizations understand where environmental impacts occur along a product’s value chain and support informed decisions regarding product development, manufacturing, supply chain management and a company’s decarbonization strategy.  They also provide transparent and standardized environmental information that is increasingly requested by customers and other stakeholders.

The study marks a significant step forward for Maxion by moving from decentralized, individual LCAs to a harmonized global approach. The assessment provides a cradle-to-gate evaluation of Maxion’s aluminum and steel products produced across Maxion’s global manufacturing network.

Conducted in accordance with relevant ISO standards for Life Cycle Assessment and applying the Environmental Footprint (EF) 3.1 methodology, the assessment covers 16 environmental impact categories and is based on 2024 production data. The study also incorporates a high share of primary data for key processes such as electricity, natural gas, and transportation, strengthening the robustness and consistency of the results globally.

The findings show that raw materials are the largest contributors to a product’s carbon footprint, reinforcing the importance of material choices and supplier engagement as key reduction levers.

Beyond providing valuable environmental insights, the global LCA establishes a strong baseline for identifying future reduction opportunities, tracking progress over time, supporting customer dialogue, and further integrating lifecycle thinking into strategic decision-making.

This milestone reflects Maxion’s continued commitment to transparency and to providing customers and stakeholders with meaningful environmental information that supports informed decision-making across the value chain.
